February 2026 Show and Tell

 Our February meeting, the last general meeting before our 2026 AGM was well attended and offered plenty of show and tell. Seems like some Retreat participants must have had their bodies well and truly attached to their machines for a few days. Outgoing President Sue won the most productive award hands down!

Lots of scrappy quilts in this months showing. Seems like everyone is trying to reduce their scrap holding but the general consensus is that it makes no difference whatsoever. Oh well, we can but try!!

A change of scenery... and state... This one from Roseanne in Queensland.

And the winner is... Patricia! She actually won this king size quilt in a raffle and is donating it to the club to be used as a fundraiser.

Now to the first of Joy's scrappy quilts. Stack and Slash anyone

Joys pretty purples. She picked up a stack of fabrics for just $4 at an op shop and here is the result.

What to do with a stack of batik strips? Well you make a very big quilt. Well done Joy.

And of course what do you do with larger scraps? Piece a very interesting backing that's what!

Gaile's stunning Tawny Frogmouth applique which has been turned into a bag for her grandson in law. A really interesting piece to look at close up.

Gaile received a crocheted blanket as a birthday gift form her daughter and loved it so much she made one herself. So much texture and weight in this lovely lap blanket.

Proof that quilts can have very interesting history. Faye completed this lovely English Paper pieced quilt after it had passed through the hands of two or three other ladies.

Faith with a scrap quilt that was quite a while in the making as she sought out fabrics in the same series to finish it off. Patience of a saint!

Note the wavy quilting that really compliments it.

And another quilt with a story. This was donated to the club unfinished by an unknown quilter. Barb fell in love with it so finished it and asked the club whether she could claim it with a donation to a charity of the clubs choosing. All agreed and Barb made a donation to Breast Cancer research. Isn't it funny how you come across a quilt you just have to have.

Barb was given fabrics to make a quilt for Windemere animal rescue but felt the pattern made up a quilt that was just too big, so she cleverly sorted the fabrics into colour themes and made 2. Here is the blue version
