Francine's Embroidery Quilt
Francine made this quilt from a pack purchased at a Craft and Quilting show a couple of years back. She has been working on it slowly and finally has a beautiful finished quilt.
The pieced blocks have been quilted with a very simple and pretty design.
Francine's Batik Quilt
Francine's very simple but effective batik quilt is a gift for her Grandson and Fiance in Darwin.
the fabrics were chosen to reflect the Darwin weather and lifestyle.
The quilting is an all over large swirly pattern and suits it beautifully.
Chris Adleys' Bedford design #4
This scrappy type quilt has also been a few years in the making and has taken a lot of team work.
Chris was given a stack of 6 " blocks by Jill and with help from Julie managed to put the design together. Sandy completed the squares that make up the border and Lee helped out with pinning.
The quilting was kept simple with stitching in the ditch.
The blocks have a real kaleidoscope look to them. One of many examples of the range of Bedford Quilts provided over the years and most definitely a testament to how well Quilters work together to get projects finished. Well done everyone involved.
Di Clark's "Leftovers" quilt
Like many quilts this one has a story. The fabrics were leftover from charity quilts made for survivors of the Victorian bushfires some years ago. Di was part of Darwin Quilters at the time and they made around 80 quilts. Rather than donate them through a charity group, the Quilters used a contact "on the ground" to ensure the quilts were delivered to people who would benefit from the love with which they were made.
The quilting is very simple, a cross hatch running from top right to bottom left.
Julie's Leaf Cushion
Julie's stunning cushion is the end result of Ming's Leaves Workshop from last year. The cushion is backed with the most sumptuous looking and feeling aubergine velour type fabric.
The front has been finished off with the beautiful swirl quilting design in a variegated thread that Ming also taught in the workshop. Great job Julie, you should be proud!
Helen's Friendship blocks
Blocks with another story to tell.
These fabrics come from a collection of a dear friend Deirdre from Montague Farm Quilt group who sadly passed away late last year. She had handed out these fabrics to other friends in the group many years ago to make "Friendship blocks".
Her husband asked some of those friends to assist with cleaning out her sewing room and 9 made up blocks and the remnant fabrics were found. As this group does an annual quilt raffle which is drawn during their Biggest Morning Tea, the girls thought it might be a good idea to utililze the blocks and add some more to make quilt for this year's raffle. So along with a couple of others, I made blocks from the left over fabric to be incorporated into the quilt.
It's a long time since I have done crazy patch and I tell you it near on sent me crazy! It was a bit more challenging than I thought, but very rewarding in the end.
At writing of this post, the quilt top has been pieced using black sashings and is quite stunning. My sister (who got me started in quilting a couple of decades back!!) has been handed the top to quilt.
When it is finished I will pop up a photo. Oh and I may just turn up with some raffle tickets if you would like a chance to win it. It is already a quite stunning without the quilting!
